However, in the event your pet needs a tooth (or multiple teeth) removed, we provide safe extraction surgery in a sterile environment. Below is more information on pet teeth extraction:

Teeth Extractions

When Is Pet Tooth Extraction Needed?

Sometimes, if a pet has not had the benefit of regular cleaning by a vet, he may develop decay so advanced that the tooth can't be saved. Other reasons can include:

Fractured or broken teeth - these can be painful, cause cuts inside the mouth, and lead to abscesses or infection.

Oral tumors - treatment of tumors inside the mouth may involve the removal of teeth.

What Happens during the Surgery?

When your pet is ready for dental surgery, he will be given a pre-surgical exam to ensure he is healthy for the procedure. He will then be given a sedative and be out under anesthesia. This is necessary to help ensure your pet is comfortable and the vet can safely extract the tooth. Once the tooth and roots are out, the vet will stitch the area. Your pet will spend some time in recovery where he will rest and be monitored. Most pets can go home on the same day.

What Will I Need to Do at Home Afterward?

You can expect your pet to be groggy and sleepy for a few hours after the surgery. He may experience some pain, swelling, and slight bleeding. It's important, however, that you keep your pet comfortable in a dark, quiet space where he can rest. Administer any antibiotics and pain medication according to the vets' instructions and give your pet soft food for a few days after the surgery.
