Cheese The Feral Cat

Meet Cheese, she is a very loved cat these days and is now living the good life with two beautiful girls to love her and care for her everyday. Life for Cheese didn’t always come this easy. Cheese was a stray that picked this family herself! After months of feeding this little kitten they were finally able to get close enough to pet her. They eventually were able to approach her easier and they all fell in love with her. The girls named her Cheese, and she became a family pet! She continued to live outside and was still reluctant to be held, but they were able to pet her and love on her at Cheese’s discretion!

Last November, when she was a little over a year old, they noticed one day that she wasn’t around. One day turned into several and after a week they still hadn’t seen her. One night they found her in her favorite spot in the flowerbeds but they were quick to notice that she couldn’t use her right front leg. She was brought in to Danforth Animal Hospital and examined by Drs. Adam and Mendy Laughlin. It was clear Cheese didn’t have a broken leg but had suffered a severe trauma to the nerves of that leg making it impossible for her to move or feel anything on that leg. The injury is called a Brachial Plexus Avulsion and it is likely she may never use the leg again. Cheese’s family was so heartbroken and we all wondered how this cat that was previously feral would be able to go back to life as an outdoor cat. Cheese stayed at Danforth for about a week and while she was initially scared, she slowly began to get more comfortable around the staff and seemed to be adjusting quite well with her injured leg.

Cheese’s family decided to make her an indoor cat for her safety since she now can’t climb or defend herself. We are happy to report she is fully adjusted and loving her new life as an indoor house cat! We are unsure about what the future may hold for her leg, but she doesn’t let that leg slow her down one bit! Cheese we all love you and are so thrilled you are enjoying life indoors. We just wish we could hear about your previous adventures in the wild! For now we will settle on hearing about your adventures with your forever family! Don’t these three redheads make an adorable trio?
